Spring 2012 Update 2: We are busy growing and getting ready for the 2012 season! Daffodils are in bloom and the greenhouse is filled with a lot of beautiful plants. We have a lot of  cold season vegetable starts ready for your spring garden – lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, kale, onions and more.  Half of the chickens have been moved from the prison location to the nursery and our wonderful volunteers have been doing an excellent job helping to take care of them.

We have already moved most of our operations out of the Northern Nevada Correctional Facility and are focusing on developing the farm stand as our primary growing site. This will provide you with the opportunity to see exactly how we grow such beautiful plants and veggies. We are also developing a reinvigorated volunteer program as well as many new opportunities for the local community to get involved and learn.

About us:

Hungry Mother Organics grows certified organic plants and produce for our neighbors in the dusty high desert of Northern Nevada.  In the summer you can pick-your-own tomatoes, peppers, herbs, strawberries, flower bouquets and more. We also have free-range eggs, lettuce, edible flowers, potatoes, carrots, fruit and veggies from other local growers, landscape nursery plants, as well as all the tools you need to grow your own.

The Hungry Mother Farm stand is also a learning center, offering classes year round to help you grow your own in this unruly climate. Our mission is to provide community members with the knowledge that will enable them to grow their own food and to be an active participant in the food chain. To get involved you can volunteer, join the Backyard Farmers Association’s monthly meetings or register your garden online for our 1000 Backyard Farms campaign.
